Wednesday
As many of you know, Wednesday is no movie. But considering I watched it in one sitting, it counts.
The show is a spinoff from the 1991 film The Addams Family, in which Wednesday Addams is simply a supporting character. In the show, she is now the protagonist and is played by Jenna Ortega, who pulls from many renditions of the movie to bring her character to life (well, more like death).
The show isn't scary, despite what many people think. It's a murder mystery with flares of a teenage coming of age story. Scores 8 apples seeds out of 10 from me, solely because some of the characters backgrounds are choppy and underdeveloped, but it is an eight episode show.
I loved how strange she was (except for the dance since it's weirdly blown up on TikTok...). She does an incredible job playing an uninterested, dark character who knows how to manipulate others, see: Thing, Enid, Tyler, etc, and is the epitome of the emo 2005 era ("allergic to colors").
In no way does this relate to the overall plot, but a friend and I were talking about one particularly odd scene - shoutout to that classmate. Dormmates Enid and Wednesday get into a fight, in which Enid moves out, only to move back in a few somethings later (who knows how time moves in TV land). But there was no real apology for their fight and they almost act as if nothing happens. If I were in a fight with the person I'd call my best friend, randomly popping back into their life would be a bit odd and saying I meant the overly critical things I said. Whatever their friendship is, it definitely needs to be better established/written in future seasons (hopefully).
For the sake of furthering my stance on the characters, a ranking: Ajax (the only swag guy in the series) > Enid (a bit goofy, polar opposite of Wednesday) > Bianca (pretty eyes, familial issues are relatable) > Tyler (basic white guy) > Rowan (Harry Potter vibes) > Xavier (GREASY BALL OF OIL).
I LOVE WEDNESDAY ENID IS SO CUTE YES
