All the Bright Places
All the Bright Places is a 2020 American film which features Violet Markey (Elle Fanning) who survives a car crash that her sister dies in. While she contemplates life, Theodore Finch (Justice Smith) saves her, thus blossoming their friendship, despite Violet's initial reluctance and apprehension. Throughout their relationship, they face the emotional trauma of their past - INCOMING POTENTIAL SPOILER: but unfortunately their physical scars are not fully handled :,) - AND CONTINUE HERE IF YOU WANT TO DISREGARD SPOILER. The overarching theme of the movie is the importance of the small moments.
As the movie develops, one can see the beautiful transformation of Violet. Originally, she feared riding in cars, instead travelling by bike. However, during a school project that requires the students to explore Indiana together, Finch not only pushes her to get back out into the world, but also later convinces her to explore several places, one of them which requires in a car. Additionally, the friendship motivates Violet to rediscover her passion for writing, as she documents their travels for the project. Violet's inspiring growth continues, despite a plot twist which brings her hardships, and is highlighted by her final speech, which also showcases the movie's lesson: cherish every moment.
My single qualm of the movie is the lack of storyline dedicated to Finch. Throughout the film, we see the changes of Violet, but Finch's background is not explored that much. I would love to see a sequel which builds on his life before meeting Violet. A majority of the movie focuses on Violet, but there is plenty left unexplained regarding Finch's character.
This movie gets a rating of 9 apple seeds out of 10, mainly due to my only issue. I definitely recommend everyone watches this movie, but bring tissues for the ending.
